BHUBANESWAR:The Cooperation Department has asked Odisha State Warehousing Corporation (OSWC) to arrange space for storing commodities procured under Price Support Scheme (PSS) during the rabi season. Sources said Markfed (State agency) has taken up procurement operation of agriculture commodities like oil seeds and pulses on behalf of Nafed (central procurement agency).
So far 3,811 tonne of commodities has been procured and those have been stored in the identified warehousing godowns at Jagatpur, Jagatsinghpur, Sakhigopal and Bhadrak. Since major procurement operation is going on in the coastal districts like Cuttack, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur and undivided Puri, there is need of further storage space for stock procured in these districts.
“Space for 1,500 tonne of OSWC at Sakhigopal, 2,000 tonne capacity godown of Sakhigopal Regulated Market Committee (RMC) and 4,000 tonne godown space of Markfed at Rasulgarh in Bhubaneswar is available. So, the OSWC has been asked to use the godown space for accommodating the stock to be procured,” said a Cooperation Department official.
In case of non-availability of space of Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) and State Warehousing Corporation (SWC), the OSWC has been directed to hire the RMC godowns and Markfed store for scientific storage of stock for smooth implementation of PSS operation and providing benefit to maximum number of farmers in the State. Meanwhile, the State Government has asked Markfed to speed up the procurement of pulses and oil seeds and complete the process by July 4.
The agency has been directed to ensure that procurement is made from genuine farmers through the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS), RMCs and Farmers’ Producers’ Organisations.
Odisha has set a target to procure 12,520 tonne of green gram (moong), 4,900 tonne of black gram (Urad), 13,480 tonne of groundnut pods (shelled groundnut) and 1,500 tonne of sunflower seeds during the current rabi season besides 4,400 tonne of arhar produced during kharif season.
