LUDHIANA: Despite MC's poor financial status and nonpayment of salaries to its staff, various development works worth Rs 100 crore (approx.) are expected to be put up before the Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC) on Monday.

Interestingly, some of these works have been given in principal approval by the mayor and MC commissioner, seeing the urgency of the situation and works have already been started. However, mayor Balkar Sandhu termed it to be his helplessness as councillors are pressing him for allowing the works to be put up for the F&CC meeting. In the F&CC meeting, works like construction of roads, installation of new tubewells against defunct tubewells, installation of interlocking tiles, renovation of some parks, purchase of new fogging machines, annual maintenance of MC tubewells, would be discussed. The installation of new tubewells against defunct tubewells has been approved in principal by the mayor because of the summer season and requirement of adequate water supply. As per the MC Act, in one F&CC meeting, around 100 proposals can be approved, but 312 proposals are ready for this meeting and around 30 items will be added on the spot.
