A police investigation into the house fire that killed a 55-year-old woman earlier this week is still open and authorities are not releasing any details.
Marty Burch, 55, was found dead around 12:30 a.m. Thursday inside her house at 1002 Fourth St. and her husband told The News-Journal on Friday that the cause of the fire was still not known, but added that it appeared to have been accidental.
Port Orange police said Thursday that the State Fire Marshal's office is investigating the cause of the blaze. Requests for an incident report were denied by police until late Friday, at which time they sent a report that had everything redacted, including the names of the witnesses and victim, citing an active criminal investigation exemption.
Burch's husband, Michael Burch, was the one who confirmed to The News-Journal that his wife had died in the blaze.
The fire was started in the very bedroom where Marty Burch was found, officials said. Firefighters spent 35 minutes battling the fire and later discovered the body during a search of the house.
Burch described his wife as "very well loved" and said she spent most of her life in the Port Orange area. Her Facebook page shows she was born in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was a graduate of Spruce Creek High School.
