‘Framed’ for own daughter’s rape, man kills wife in Assam court

In a gory incident of violence, a man killed his wife on a court premises in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Friday.

The incident took place inside the premises of the District and Sessions Court at Dibrugarh in Assam, police said, adding that one Purna Nahar Deka hit his wife Rita Nahar Deka with sharp weapons for several times, leading to her death .

“The Dekas came to the court over a case of rape of their daughter about nine months back. The wife filed an FIR against the husband alleging that he had raped their daughter. Police had also arrested the Purna Nahar Deka over the FIR until he was released on bail few months back. The case was listed for hearing in the District and Sessions court in Dibrugarh today ,” said a senior Dibrugarh police Officer.

“Both the husband and wife came to the court separately and were sitting on a bench outside the courtroom. Around 10.30, Purna took out a sharp weapon from his bag and started hitting his wife. Security forces on duty disarmed him and rushed the wife to the Assam Medical College. However, the doctors declared her brought dead,” police said.

“We have arrested him and interrogation is on,” police said.

The arrested man later told the media that he killed his wife out of vengeance as she framed him in a false rape case against his own daughter.

“She was not good and she lodged a FIR against me over a false case. She also did not allow me to come home after my release from the jail,” he said.
