A man who was injured in a shooting incident at Polson Pier on Saturday night remains in hospital in stable condition.

Toronto police said they received reports about gunfire around 9 p.m. in a parking lot near Lake Shore Boulevard East and Cherry Street. Callers said a number of people were running from the scene.

Gary Long, spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service, said people in two vehicles were shooting at each other.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found one of the vehicles at Mill and Parliament Streets with a man inside.

The man, who had suffered a single gunshot wound to his upper body, was taken to hospital, but his injury was considered not life-threatening, Long said.

Yasmin Mahmoodpour, a woman who was at the Cubana pool bar with friends ,said she and her friends had to run for cover.

"We just heard about four or five gunshots. We looked around. We thought it was fireworks at first, and then, we just saw a bunch of people ducking down, hiding behind cars," she said.

"We tried to like just duck down, keep safe . . . and we waited until security and police were in the area. We just waited there until we were safe to move."

The investigation is ongoing.
