Sit-in outside DU V-C’s office

Two members of Delhi University’s Executive Council, Rajesh Jha and A. K. Bhagi, started a sit-in outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office on Friday demanding that he meet the DU Teachers’ Association (DUTA) immediately.

Police called

This happened after DU administration allegedly called the police to “crack down” on DUTA teams campaigning at evaluation centres, where principals and the DU examination branch have been forcing ad hoc and guest teachers to report for evaluation.

“Instead of having a dialogue to resolve the crisis, the V-C has resorted to tactics of intimidation and coercion against the most vulnerable sections of the teaching community,” said DUTA.

“Teams of DUTA activists have been visiting evaluation centres and appealing to teachers to continue with the evaluation boycott. When the teachers started responding positively to DUTA’s appeal, the police was called to guard the centres,” added DUTA president Rajib Ray.

DU administration said it will continue to appeal to teachers who are boycotting evaluation to see reason and ensure that results are released on time.
