VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is likely to raise the issue of denial of special category status (SCS) and other issues during the Niti Aayog Governing Council fourth meeting to be held on June 17 at New Delhi.
Naidu, who held a meeting with officials over the issues that need to be taken up with the Centre for the third consecutive day on Friday, discussed various issues that need to be addressed by the Centre to render justice to the State. After the meeting, an agenda had been chalked out and it is learnt that the CM, while raising the SCS issue, would blame the Centre for misleading the people of AP by announcing special package in lieu of SCS on the ground that the 14th Finance Commission had done away with SCS. “On one hand, the Centre states that considering the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission, SCS cannot be given to any State, on the other hand, it has extended the benefits of SCS to 11 states,’’ the CM would reiterate in the meeting.
Naidu would highlight BJP’s failure to keep its promises. Using Niti Aayog meeting as a ground to expose the BJP, sources said Naidu would make a mention that the election manifesto of BJP promised SCS for AP for 10 years. “The people of AP feel cheated and unequivocally demand SCS without any dilution and conditions. There cannot be any compromise in this regard,’’ Naidu would stress. The CM will also raise the issue of inadequate financial support to institutions and infrastructure projects
