KOCHI: Victorious in creating a place for themselves in government jobs and sports field, transgenders in Kerala have made a splendid entry into the beauty industry. After the grand success of the transgender beauty pageant last year, the organising committee is all set for the second season of the transgender beauty pageant- 'Queen of Dhwayah- 2018'.

Last year's event was held in Ernakulam and drew support from all walks of life and a diverse audience of all genders and ages. The event is organised by Dhwayah Trangenders Arts and Cultural Society that works with the transgender community in the state. The main motto of the group is to help the transgenders to grow their artistic traits, provide job training, conducting the stage shows and fashion shows with celebrities, classical dance and shows. Unlike other pageants, queen of Dhwayah is not just about beauty and looks alone. Rather the programme aims at the inclusion of the 'third' gender into our society. Hopefully, queen of Dhwayah will be a big step towards erasing the stigma associated with the people of the community, presenting them with opportunities to showcase and build their artistic talents, said the organisers.

The participants will be tested on beauty, intelligence and social consciousness. The event will be held on June 18th at the CIAL convention centre near Cochin International Airport and the chief guest of the show will be actor Mammootty. Celebrities like Jayasurya, Nadiya Moidu, Padmapriya, Mamta Mohandas, Amala Paul, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy and Rima Kallingal among others from the South Indian movie industry.
