SA trio make US Open cut at Shinnecock

2018-06-16 02:59

Southampton - After two gruelling rounds of the 118th US Open at Shinnecock Hills, THREE out of the six South African golfers remain.

This year's US Open cut sliced several big names including Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlory, Jason Day, Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia - just to name a few.

World No 1 Dustin Johnson looked like he was playing on a different outfield as his fellow competitors struggled on a windy and tough Shinnecock course.

Branden Grace was SA's best heading into the weekend - as he broke under par - shooting a 1-under 69 to sit on 5-over par.

One shot behind Grace is friend and Presidents Cup team-mate Louis Oosthuizen, who shot 2-over par 72.

Playing in his first Major event, Dean Burmester landed on the cut line and posted rounds of 75 and 73 to lie in a tie for 58h.

After the cut was made at 8-over par, Charl Schwartzel registered rounds of 79 and 73 to finish 12-over par.

Two-time US Open champion Ernie Els posted 78 and 79 to end 17-over par.

Dylan Frittelli, who is playing his first US Open tournament, would up shooting 78 and 80 to finish at 18-over par.
