The Bombay high court on Friday quashed the criminal case against actor Armaan Kohli for assaulting his live-in partner, Neeru Randhawa. The court also ordered his immediate release from jail.

The reprieve, however, came only after the 46-year-old actor tendsered an affidavit expressing remorse and submitted an undertaking saying he will not commit such an act in future and will not apply to the HC for quashing such a case if he does so. The reprieve has not, however, come without a rider. The division bench of Justice RM Savant and Justice Revati Mohite-Dere ordered Kohli “to contribute to the society by paying ₹1 lakh each to the Tata Memorial Centre and the National Association for the Blind within six weeks and submit receipts thereof”.

Kohli has also paid an undisclosed amount to his 35-year-old live-in partner Randhawa towards full and final settlement and his lawyer, advocate Laxmi Raman, on Friday handed over two post-dated cheques to Randhawa’s lawyer. The bench had on Thursday expressed willingness to quash the criminal case provided the actor files an affidavit expressing remorse about the assault and also gives an undertaking saying he won’t repeat such acts. Kohli had approached the HC after the Santacruz police arrested him on Tuesday, under sections 323, 326, 504 and 506 of the IPC, on the basis of a complaint made by Randhawa on June 3.

Randhawa had alleged that Kohli abused her on June 3 following a discussion over their business. Kohli and Randhawa however resolved the issue amicably, and she agreed not to pursue her complaint any further.
