LUDHIANA: Aimed at increasing green cover and providing fresh air in the state under Mission Tandrust Punjab, the forest department of Ludhiana will distribute 2.5 lakh saplings to Ludhianavis through the newly launched mobile app ‘i-Hariyali’. People can book saplings of their choice in the app, which can be downloaded easily from Playstore. There are several varieties of saplings, including fruit, medicinal, tree, timber, ornamentals, and shrubs.
Giving more information, divisional forest officer (DFO) Charanjeet Singh said: “When a person books a sapling on the app, an SMS will be sent to his/her mobile, giving information about the government’s nursery, forest guard’s contact number, and date on which the person can collect the plant within the given time-slot. The person can also search nurseries according to the saplings required, and can book a maximum of 10 saplings in one go through the app, which will be given free of cost.”
The DFO also stated that the app could be used in the entire state, as it had details of each
district, government nurseries, and others. He added that the forest department had already started receiving orders from people. The DFO further disclosed that apart from this drive, the department would also plant 2.14 lakh saplings on its land in Ludhiana under ‘Ghar Ghar Hariyali’ programme, besides 7.25 lakh more saplings in the entire district.
