ALBANY — City firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at 643-645 Second St. around 6 p.m. Friday that displaced three families.

It was a two-alarm fire that started at the 643 Second St. residence, said Battalion Chief Geo Henderson. The cause is believed to be electrical in nature, he said. No one was injured.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross said it provided financial assistance for shelter, food and clothing to seven adults and three children, ages 4, 8, and 15.

Firefighters didn't get much rest overnight.

Another fire started around 1:39 a.m. Saturday at 158 Dove St., a vacant and abandoned building. When firefighters arrived, they found tires and the front porch on fire, Henderson said.

They were delayed in fighting the fire because of live wires that were attached to the building and had to wait for National Grid workers to arrive. They were able to stop the fire before it spread, Henderson said.

The cause is suspicious and the fire is under investigation, he said.
