A 58-year-old Lewes man is in critical condition after his motorcycle crashed into a truck and boat trailer Saturday, police said.

At around 11:50 a.m., a 2016 GMC Canyon truck hauling a loaded boat trailer was heading north on Oak Orchard Road (SR 5), according to a state police news release.

The man on the 1988 Harley Davidson motorcycle was behind the truck when it began to turn right into the entrance of the Oak Orchard Diner, police said.

At the same time, the Lewes man attempted to pass the truck on the right side, striking the front corner of the truck and ejecting the operator, who was not wearing a helmet, police said.

The truck came to a stop, and the 63-year-old man from Wilmington and his passenger were uninjured. Impairment was not a factor, police said.

The Lewes man was transported by helicopter to Christiana Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. Impairment on his behalf is unknown at this time, police said.

Oak Orchard Road in the area of John J. Williams Highway was closed for approximately 2 and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
