LUDHIANA: A day before Eid, family residing in Moti Nagar organised an
Iftar party for a Muslim family on Thursday. Prannv Dhawan, a law student in the family, who took full initiative said, “Being from a law background, I read about secularism a lot, but we need to implement these theories practically too. I didn’t have much idea about Iftar but have some classmates in college from Muslim community. They explained me the rituals and my family helped me and supported me. This time, we served 15-20 people. I want to do it on a larger scale next year,” said Prannv.
“It’s been more than 35 years that we know this family. But we never thought of doing something like this. But one day, my son suggested me to do so. That day, I really felt like youth is the one who can actually break the stereotypical notions. Only our family cannot change the whole scenario. We seriously want to others to join in to do it on a large scale,” said Prannv’s father Vivek Dhawan.
Israr Saifi, Dhawans’ neighbour said, “Both our families hold healthy relations since last 35 years. Our country really needs more families like the Dhawans as we seriously need more cultural interaction to actually make India a secular country. I felt really happy. Such bond between the religions will surely lead the country to social development.”
