Professional colleges in Nellore district continue to lose out to the colleges and deemed universities in IT hubs like Chennai and Bengaluru as students have preferred to migrate in greater number this year also when compared with 2017 and 2016.
Most parents are also reluctant to join their wards in local colleges fearing that they may not get campus placements on completion of their courses.
Seeing the trend, the Chennai and Bengaluru-based institutions are on a poaching drive in Nellore district by opening direct contact with parents here through telephone, SMS and social media platforms.
Some of these colleges have come down here to conduct counselling and enrol students based on their Eamcet and JEE ranks.
Other factors
In the past two months, each parent got countless offers from the colleges from these two States with computer science engineering remaining top in their list of attractions. A parent on condition of anonymity says that apart from placements, there are also factors like fee and facilities that are playing a major role in the migration of these students. A near panic situation is prevailing among the admission seekers who say that the campus placements are declining each year in the district. The computer science courses are no exception to this trend.
Another contributing factor is that the IT industry continues to create increasing number of job opportunities even as the core engineering branches like mechanical and civil fail to maintain their previous recruitment records.
As a result, the students are keeping their hopes on IT jobs while taking admissions.
If passed out from Chennai and Bengaluru colleges, they are able to grab offers without fail because of the presence of major software companies there.
