Thane: A nine-year-old boy from Kalwa died after falling into a seven-feet deep Thane municipal corporation (TMC)-owned water tank near Mahartma Phule Nagar on Friday. The tank is used to supply water to public urinals.
The boy, Kunal Bagul, climbed on top of the tank and then went to its edge. He then lost balance and fell inside. The boy was trapped for almost an hour before a cleaning staff saw the boy. He then immediately informed the police, rescue officials and the fire brigade.

The officals arrived at the spot within minutes. The boy was being rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way. Senior inspector at Kalwa police station Shekhar Bagade said, “The boy had gone to defecate near the water tank. The boy must have gone to the edge of the tank and then slipped. After an hour, a cleaning person saw the boy and informed us. However, before we could admit him at a hospital he died.”

A case of accidental death has been registered with the Kalwa police. The boy lived in the slums at Mahatma Phule Nagar.
