GUNTUR: The Guntur Urban police, who solved the sensational robbery case at Penumaka village of Tadepalli mandal in the district within 24 hours, said the daughter-in-law of the victim was the one who conspired to loot the money from the house and engaged her family members to commit the offence.
The entire stolen booty of `78 lakh and 26 sovereigns of gold was recovered from the accused.

The robbery was committed in the house of Meka Vema Reddy on Thursday when three persons forcibly entered the house and after attacking two of the women inmates, stole the cash and jewellery.
During investigation, the police found that Vema Reddy’s daughter-in-law Siva Parvati had conspired with her family members to rob the money which was kept in the house after Vema Reddy sold away 2 acres of land at Penumaka for ` 2 crore.

Addressing a press conference, Guntur Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao said the culprits, after entering the house, managed to take away `78 lakh cash kept in the almirah of Vema Reddy’s house. They suspected Siva Parvati due to her suspicious behaviour and during investigation, she confessed to have played a key role in the crime.

While the other inmate of the house suffered serious injuries, Siva Parvati’s injuries are minor and looked like they were self-inflicted which made the police suspect her.”Ever since her marriage, Siva Parvati was not given any money for her expenses which made her develop a grudge against her in-laws,’’ the police said.

Siva Parvati engaged her sister Kondamadugula Lakshmi Prasanna, relative Vanga Sitarami Reddy, his father Venkata Reddy and others to rob the cash and gold ornaments from the house of Vema Reddy.
Their relative Chembeti Mallikharjuna Rao, his brother-in-law Thota Gopichand, other relatives Sai and Chintalacheruvu Raju were involved in the crime as per the directions of Siva Parvati and Sitarami Reddy. Sitarami Reddy’s friend Silam Srinivas arranged a car for them.

Since the past 10 days, they were waiting for an opportunity to rob the cash and gold, the police siad. On June 14, Siva Parvati called Sitarami Reddy over the phone and informed him that all the inmates were away from house and she and her mother-in-law Meka Kamala were only present in the house and told him that it was the right time to strike.

Sitarami Reddy arranged motorcycles for Mallikharjuna Rao, Gopi Chand and Sai and he followed them till to Yerrabalem of Mangalagiri mandal in a car. Mallikharjuna Rao, Gopichand and Sai came by a motorcycle to Penumaka and attacked Kamala while entering the house.
Further, they robbed the cash of `78 lakh and 26 sovereigns gold ornaments from the almirah and left the house for Guntur.

Sitarami Reddy, Mallikharjuna Rao, Gopichand and Sai reached the house of Chintalacheruvu Raju in Guntur city with the booty. Immediately, Sai left with `22.8 lakh cash from Guntur for Srikakulam but the police arrested him and recovered the cash.

“Ten special teams were formed to nab the accused and we have succeeded in cracking the case within 24 hours,’’ the SP said. The accused were partying in a house when the police raided it  and arrested them.
