Logging truck and car in fatal crash near Gisborne

The driver of a car has died after a crash with a logging truck north of Gisborne.

Police said emergency services were at the scene on State Highway 32 near Sirrah St at Makorori Hill.

The crash happened about 7.50am on Saturday.

The front seat passenger of the car has been taken to Gisborne Hospital as a precaution.

The road is closed and motorists have been told to expect lengthy delays.

The Serious Crash Unit and Commercial Vehicle Safety Team are investigating.
