Brand-new Logan ambulance vandalised, Facebook post goes viral
A brand-new double-stretcher ambulance has been vandalised outside a Logan ambulance station taking it off the road for several hours on Saturday while it was cleaned and police investigated.
However, the Queensland Ambulance Service has been heartened by the community's support, with the social media post about the vandalisation going viral and people offering to come and clean the vehicle for free to get it back on the road as soon as possible.
QAS posted pictures of the graffiti on Facebook with a message to the culprit.
"Where has the respect gone? What a kick in the guts for our officers who care for the community," the post read.
"Staff at our Woodridge station south of Brisbane arrived at work this morning to find one of our new twin stretcher units vandalised, covered in graffiti.
"This valuable resource will now be off the road, unable to respond.
"The perpetrators of this senseless act should remember it may be them or a loved one that may need our urgent care."
QAS spokesman Michael Augustus thanked the community for all of the support with the social media post reaching more than 600,000 in less than six hours.
"We’ve been so heartened, people have offered to come and clean the ambulance with their children and companies have also been offering to come and do it for free," he said.
"The has now been cleaned and is back in operation but the post has gone viral."
Mr Augustus said he believed the vandalised vehicle was the only one of its kind at Woodridge Ambulance Station and described the incident as "moronic, senseless stupidy".
"In the four years I've been at the Queensland Ambulance Service, this is the first [graffiti] case in the state that I've seen," he said.
"We do have a person on CCTV about 4am and we have given it to the police.
"The crew started about 6 or 7am, but we had to wait for the police to fingerprint and photograph the ambulance before we had it detailed, so it was ready to go by about 10am."
Police are investigating the vandalism and if anyone has any information, they have been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
