The first part of a $2.2 million upgrade to the Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital Cancer Center that will benefit patients and staff is underway, according to a news release.

The improvements include three new infusion bays and a main registration desk with individual privacy bays for patients. Construction also includes a new nurses’ station, new exam area, a radiology-oncology waiting room, and a shared physician office space.

The pharmacy inside also will be completely upgraded, the release said. Renovations include new furniture, carpeting and flooring throughout the center. Additional renovations include installing a new teleconferencing system that will allow physicians at the center to better collaborate with other Northwestern Medicine experts, according to the release.

The final phase of construction is scheduled to be done by early 2019.
