KAKINADA: Thanks to an alert teacher, 15 students had a close shave when their school bus hit an electric pole while negotiating a turn at Bheemakrusupalem village, near Draksharamam, under Ramachandrapuram mandal in East Godavari district on Friday.

Sensing danger, the teacher asked the children to alight the bus before the snapped live wires fell on the bus. The students quickly got off the vehicle, thus saving themselves from a great danger.

According to P Satyananarayana, a head constable attached to the Draksharamam police station, the incident happened when the bus was proceeding to Laxmi Sarwani School from Andrangi village in the morning.

When driver of the bus Pilli Vijay Kumar tried to move the vehicle away from the electric pole, the snapped wires of a mini-transformer near the electric pole fell on it, resulting in the vehicle catching fire. The bus was engulfed in flames and all the seats were reduced to ashes.
