MIFFLIN The Lakeville woman who was sucked through the Charles Mill Dam has died, according to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office.

Regina Miller, 18, was on life support at OhioHealth Mansfield and in critical condition after she went through the dam about 2:15 a.m. Thursday, where she was swimming with her sister and three other friends who were fishing.

Ashland County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Carl Richert confirmed Friday afternoon she died late Thursday night.

Miller was pulled out of the water by Jared Tims, of Fredericktown, who happened to be fishing on the south side of the dam when he heard commotion on top of the dam.

He noticed Miller in the water, jumped in and pulled her out of the spillway, and began to administer CPR.

Meanwhile, one friend had already called 911. The man was on the phone with dispatchers for several minutes, when he told them that he saw Tims remove Miller from the water.

The 911 caller said Miller was unresponsive.

Miller’s sister was also being pulled toward the dam’s grates, but she was able to be pulled out from the strong undercurrents.

The area is posted as no swimming because of the strong pull of the water.
