Security forces in Indian-administered Kashmir have fired bullets and tear gas at hundreds of stone-throwing protesters. Although separatists have long-sought to join Pakistan, many Kashmiris also say they just want a chance at a peaceful life.

One demonstrator has been killed and at least a dozen others injured.
