Case of dumper killing youthAdmn probe to see if dumper was illegally transporting sand

The dumper which killed a youth in Gujarwada village in Hoshangabad district on Wednesday, might have been transporting sand illegally from one of the four sand mines operating in the area, something which the district administration is inquiring into.

After the death of the youth identified as Shivprasad on Wednesday after a dumper hit his motorcycle, the irate villagers burnt and damaged over two dozen dumpers and other vehicles including a police vehicle of the Babai police station.

The Congress has alleged that illegal sand mining and transportation is taking place on a large scale from the banks of Narmada river in the area, with State Congress president Kamal Nath tweeting that mining mafia is hoarding sand before onset of the monsoon and there is no government control over it.

Congress leader K K Mishra said there is a rush to store sand because sand mining is not possible during monsoon and dumpers are working overtime to store sand. “There is illegal transportation on a large scale. The mining contractor gets one permit issued and uses it multiple times by greasing palms. The dumper drivers drive very fast to make as many trips as possible and it was rashly driven dumper which killed the youth.”

Hoshangabad collector Priyanka Das too admits that illegal transportation might have been taking place. “There are four mines operating in Rajone, situated near Gujarwada where the accident took place. All the mines are legal. Two of them are owned by the local panchayats and two others by the State mining corporation. We are cross-checking the number plates of the dumpers that had been burnt by the mob with the e-permits that had been issued by these four mines for that day. The police too is carrying out a parallel investigation into the matter,” the collector said.

SP Arvind Saxena said they have registered cases of arson, rioting, damaging public property, preventing official from discharging their duties in this connection. The people involved in the arson and rioting are being identified and they will be arrested soon. He said apart from Krishna Yadav, another person identified as Pramod Yadav also died after parts of a tyre of a burning vehicle burst and hit him on the head.

Points of the collector’s inquiry

1.How did the accident take place, and how did Krishna Yadav and Pramod Yadav die and whether they died at the same time or not.

2 – From which mine was the dumper coming. There are four mines and the road where the accident took place is the main road to reach the mines.

3 – Who all are responsible for the violence that took place after the accident.
