A new railway zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam will soon be a reality, BJP MP K. Haribabu has said.
There were still some issues with Odisha, and they were being sorted out, Mr. Haribabu told the media on the sidelines of a meeting here on Thursday.
An in-principle decision was taken in this regard when party leaders from Andhra Pradesh met BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi recently, Mr. Haribabu, who was part of the delegation, said. “The Railway Board was averse to the establishment of the new zone. Its formation is a political decision. The Railway Minister would issue instructions to the board in this regard soon,” Mr. Haribabu said.
Once issues such as carving out the boundaries of the new zone were sorted out, steps would be taken to establish the zone, he said, and was optimistic that it would start functioning during his tenure itself. Mr. Haribabu also said that Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Nitin Gadkari, and Prakash Javadekar would soon visit all the districts to enlighten people what the Centre had done to the State.
