The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County is holding auditions for the critically acclaimed one-woman show "My Name Is Rachel Corrie" on Saturday, June 23 at noon.

Auditions will be held at The Little Theatre in New Philadelphia. Registration will be at 11:30 a.m., and auditions will start at noon.

“We are thrilled to be presenting this area premiere to open our 2018-2019 season,” said director Kait Gallagher-Wilsterman. She directed the hugely successful "A Fairy Tale Christmas Carol" at the theater in 2016 and is the secretary on the Board of Trustees for the Little Theatre. The show dates are Aug. 16-19 and 23-26.

Created by actor/director Alan Rickman and journalist Katharine Viner by editing material from Rachel Corrie's journals, letters, and emails to family and friends, this compelling work follows the 23-year-old as she describes leaving her home in Olympia, Washington, to work as an activist in the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Corrie captured international attention when she stood her ground in the path of an armored bulldozer.

Throughout the play, Corrie’s own journals reveal a woman with a passion for artist Salvador Dali and rocker Pat Benatar. Craig Corrie, Rachel's father, wrote in his letter to potential producers of the show that through her own words, the play tells the story of a young woman who "could have gone anywhere" as an advocate because "Rachel's concern for the marginalized was universal.” It has been performed in 10 countries, including sold-out houses in New York and London.

The script calls for a strong female actor who is comfortable with strong language and adult content. This is a one-woman staged reading and will be duplicate cast. Actors may not perform for all eight performance dates. Those auditioning will be asked to perform cuttings from the script, which are currently available on the Little Theatre website. Actors will also be asked to read from the script.
