CHENNAI: Burglars stole
liquor and Rs 4,000 in cash from a
Tasmac shop at Putlur near
Tiruvallur on Thursday. The burglars consumed liquor and strew bottles in the shop before escaping.
Based on the complaint filed by shop supervisor Kesavan, the Tiruvallur police registered a case and launched a hunt for the suspects.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the shop’s routine collection could be between Rs 4 and Rs 5 lakh. The supervisor used to leave the money in a safe before closing the shop every night. On Wednesday night, however, he carried the cash with him, leaving only Rs 4,000 in the safe.
The police said the burglars had used iron rods and hammers to open the locks.
