BRIGHTON TWP. — A 1-year-old child’s leg was broken while he was riding on a dirt bike with an adult man who crashed the bike into a parked car.
According to the report, Anthony J. Hoover, 28, of Brighton Township, and a 1-year-old child were not wearing helmets while riding on the bike on a township road.
Police said officers were called at about 1:15 p.m. May 28 to the 100 block of Northview Circle in Brighton Township for a bike crash. When officers arrived, a man reported Hoover crashed into his parked car, causing “moderate damage,” police said.
According to the report, the man did not see the incident, but found a note on his car with Hoover’s name and phone number.
Police said witnesses of the crash reported Hoover and a small child were riding on the bike at a high rate of speed when Hoover swerved to avoid an oncoming car and lost control of the bike, causing him to crash into the parked car.
The witness said neither Hoover nor the child were wearing a helmet, police said. According to the report, Hoover left after the incident to take the child to an area hospital for treatment.
Afterward, police said, Hoover and the child went to the Brighton Township Police station where he spoke with officers and confirmed the witness’s account of the crash.
Officers learned the dirt bike was not registered or insured, police said. Hoover’s driver’s license was also suspended, according to the report.
Police said the 1-year-old child broke his right leg.
Hoover, of 109 Shady Lane Drive, was charged June 11 with a felony count of endangering the welfare of a child, as well as a series of traffic citations.
