Noida: Swap transplant saves two lives; keeps faith in harmony alive

NOIDA: In a swap transplant that speaks volumes about communal harmony, two women from families from different faiths have saved the lives of each other's husband by donating kidney.
Fifty-three-year-old Ikram and 43-year-old Anil Kumar - whose kidney had failed due to high blood pressure - were not getting right donor. Dr. Amit Deora said that both the patients had chronic kidney disease.

Anil came to Noida's Jaypee Hospital from UP's Gorakhpur and Ikram came from Mujaffarpur. Ikran required B+ blood group kidney, but his wife's blood group was A-ve.

Doctors made both the families meet and suggested swap transplant following which families agreed on the suggestion. The meeting with both families was held separately and details of swap transplant were explained.

At last, wives of the patients donated the kidneys and both the patients are out healthy. After 12 days of the transplant, both were discharged from the hospital.
