Township officials moved Monday's meeting to the high school to accommodate crowd, repair work.
HOPEWELL TWP. — Township officials are expecting a crowd for Monday's public meeting with developers and facilitators of a planned drug treatment center.
The meeting has been relocated to the Hopewell High School auditorium, located at 1215 Longvue Ave.
Township Manager Marie Hartman said the rationale for the move was twofold. About 45 residents attended last week's meeting where the treatment facility wasn't on the agenda. Additionally, there is water damage to several rooms at the municipal building, requiring repair work.
"With the repair work from the water leak at the municipal building, we have contents of rooms relocated throughout the municipal building while repair work is ongoing," Hartman said. "Some of these contents need to be moved into the main meeting room to allow for the installation of flooring, which may further limit the seating space in that room. Not knowing how many people to anticipate, we decided to relocate to a larger venue so that anyone in attendance could be accommodated."
The township organized a meeting for Monday with officials from Resources for Human Development and Real Estate Development Associates to discuss a planned drug treatment center slated for the former Five Points Elementary School building at 3007 School Street. Developers received permission to operate an extended care facility in the building in January, but officials were not told the nature of the tenant.
Officials from the zoning hearing board are expected to be present to hear about the project to determine whether or not the board needs to re-examine if the facility fits in the extended care facility use.
The meeting is open to the public and will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
