GURUGRAM: A six-year-old boy drowned to death in Bajghera village
pond on Friday.
According to the police, Vikas had gone to the pond with a friend to take bath around 1.30pm. On seeing around 15
buffaloes on the other side of the pond, the boy got excited and tried to
swim towards them. While doing so, he started drowning. His friend noticed this and rushed out of the pond to call for help. He ran to Vikas’s home and informed his parents, who reached the pond immediately. As they could not find Vikas, they informed
police and fire brigade.
It took the
rescuers around two hours to locate the body and fish it out of the pond.
Pappu Shah, Vikas’s father, told cops that Vikas used to love going for a swim at the pond. They had warned him earlier not to go deep inside the pond and Vikas had obeyed them always. But on Friday, Vikas swam to the deeper side and couldn’t save himself. “Vikas was the youngest among my four children. He was very obedient. Don’t know why he tried to swim deep into the pond on Friday,” a teary-eyed Shah said.
Shah told cops that he and his wife worked as housekeeping staff in a private company and had four children, including Vikas, two sons and one daughter.
“We handed over the body to the kin after postmortem. No case was registered as this was an accidental death,” said ASI Kanwar Singh of Bajghera police station.
“After getting information, our team reached the spot divers but till then an hour had passed since the boy drowned,” said Dinesh Sharma, assistant fire officer of Bhim Nagar fire station.
