NEW PHILADELPHIA A man was transported to Akron City Hospital after a shooting incident was reported at 5:55 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of North Broadway. His condition was not available.
New Philadelphia Police Officer Kyle Kelley said police received a report of an adult male with a gunshot wound to the lower leg. The man, reportedly in his 20s, was transported to the hospital.
With the consent of the homeowner, police searched the apartment and found and confiscated a semi-automatic handgun, Kelley said at about 8:10 p.m.
As to what sparked the shooting, Kelley said that remains under investigation and "we are not sure at this time who fired the shot. We believe it was just one shot. We're still investigating if it was inside or outside of the apartment building."
