An awareness programme organised by the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here on Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) counselling for admissions into NITs and IITs received an encouraging response from students and parents.
It was the first such event organised by the institute to guide the aspirants and arm them with the knowledge on counselling procedures.
Inaugurating the programme, NIT director N.V. Ramana Rao said some students were found to be losing opportunities because of minor mistakes in filling up online forms and a few others do not come prepared with the required documents for admission.
Admissions chairman D.V. Shiva Sharma highlighted some common mistakes committed by students in choice filling, submission of documents and payment of fee.
Students were apprised of the institute’s history, academic programmes, research, placements, facilities, festivals, extra-curricular activities and international collaborations by dean of International Relations and Alumni Affairs K.V. Jayakumar and dean of Students Welfare L.R.G. Reddy.
Chief warden A Venu Vinod shared details of the boys’ and girls’ hostels on campus.
Later, the participants were taken on a visit to various departments and laboratories to learn about the specific branches of engineering and interact with faculty members.
