ROTTERDAM  - A Schenectady man allegedly stole four diamond rings valued at $16,400 from a jewelry store in the Viaport Mall in Rotterdam, police said.

Curtis Keith, 46, was charged with felony grand larceny following a Jan. 5 incident where Rotterdam police said Keith distracted a Jewels jewelry store clerk, reached over the counter and stole the rings.

Shortly after the theft, police said they learned Keith may have fled to New York City. He was found by New York City police May 17 in Brooklyn, detained and later extradited back to Schenectady County, police said.

Keith was arraigned and remanded to the Schenectady County Jail with no bail.

The rings have not been recovered.
