Bank staffer booked by CBI for financial ‘fraud’

‘₹1.71 cr. misappropriated by the official’

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday registered a case against V. Santoshi Ramu, fomrer clerk and cashier of Andhra Bank, Cheepurupalli branch in Vizianagaram on charge of misappropriation of a fund of ₹1.71 crore.

A communiqué released by the CBI said that Santoshi Ramu who is working as the assistant manager of Andhra Bank, Parlakhemundi Branch in Odisha, in the officials capacity of clerk-cum cashier of the Cheepurpalli Branch between July 2015 and July 2017 allegedly misappropriated ₹1.71 crore which was supposed to be credited to the account of the Cheepurupalli Rural Electric Co-operative Society Limited.

Investigation has also revealed that on 133 instances, the society had entrusted the bank official with ₹64.45 lakh to credit the amount to its account. However, Santoshi Ramu by abusing his official position did not credit the same on the day of deposit. He deposited the amounts on later dates.

Searches conducted

Searches were conducted on the residential premises of the bank official at Cheepurupalli and several incriminating documents were seized.
