Porsche 918 Spyder Teaches LaFerrari How To Drag Race

In perfect conditions and with experienced drivers behind the wheel, both the LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder can fire down the quarter mile in roughly 9.8 seconds.

While the two hybrid hypercars have been out for a few years now, there aren’t that many videos of the duo facing off at a drag strip. Fortunately, a pair, owned by the one family, were recently brought out to Houston Raceway and went toe-to-toe with a father and son behind the wheel.

Due to the power advantage of the LaFerrari (950 hp vs 887 hp), it’d be easier to think it has the advantage over the Porsche. It also weighs significantly less. However, it is the 918 Spyder which is consistently the quicker of the two off the line, thanks in part to its advanced all-wheel drive system that delivers traction the LaFerrari could only ever dream of.

During this race, the LaFerrari completed the quarter in 10.7 seconds at 135 mph (217 km/h), roughly one second slower than examples have covered 1320 feet during other tests. By comparison, the 918 rocketed home in a blistering 9.7 seconds at 142 mph (228 km/h), showing the Italian how things are done.
