Location revealed for Donald Glover's unusual Auckland Pharos festival

Donald Glover will release new music at his festival in Auckland.

Donald Glover has revealed the location for the Pharos festival, which he's bringing to Auckland in November.

Under the moniker Childish Gambino, the Star Wars star will perform at Tapapakanga Regional Park.

The park is home to Splore, until now, New Zealand's most mysterious and eccentric music festival. Splore themed itself as a "mystic ritual" this year, but it would be hard to be more mysterious than whatever Glover has planned.

Tapapakanga Regional park, south of Auckland, will host another major festival.

According to the Pharos app, which is the exclusive ticket seller and fountain of all things Pharos, the festival will return – but this time in New Zealand.

The festival concept was tried out in 2016, when Glover performed at Joshua Tree desert in the USA.

Tapapakanga Regional park is also home to the Splore festival.

Billboard magazine reported the unusual scenes. All phones were banned, there was a lot of glow in the dark paint and clothing, and the magazine claimed Glover had given "a glimpse into how fans might consume live music in the future".

Pharos was "a high-sensory audio and visual presentation", their writer said.

When the New Zealand show was announced, details were few and far between.
