Minor Traffic Violation Leads To An Assortment Of Charges

A minor traffic violation can sometimes lead to something more serious and that’s exactly what happened in West St. Paul, Minnesota.

In a video uploaded by the city’s police department, we can see an officer out on patrol when he notices a Ford Explorer blow through a stop sign at approximately 30 mph (48 km/h). He pulls the Explorer over only to notice that the passenger side taillight is broken.

The officer then begins talking to the driver who says she didn’t stop because she was “going so fast” that she didn’t think she could stop in time. The officer also notes the driver wasn’t just speeding but also eating a sandwich.

After a bit of light chastising, the officer asks for her driver’s license and insurance information. She doesn’t have either so the officer writes down her information to have it run through the police department’s system.

The video skips forward a bit and shows the officer, now with back up, telling the driver that she has an outstanding warrant for her arrest. The two talk for a bit and the officer eventually notices the smell of marijuana. The driver initially denies having any in the vehicle but eventually tells the officer the truth.

At this point, the officer is clearly exasperated by the ridiculousness of the situation and remarks “My gosh, we just keep adding crap on.” Little does he know, there’s still more to come.

After having the driver step out of the Explorer, the officers discover the 19-year old had open containers of alcohol in the SUV as well as drug paraphernalia.

In the end, driver’s failure to stop at the stop sign lead to 11 infractions and the department joking described as the video as “When your day goes from bad to worse… to worse… to worse… to worse… to wor-… Well, just watch the video and you’ll understand.”
