HYDERABAD: The state government will complete the exercise of fixing reserved wards in villages by June 25 for holding  panchayat raj elections. The term of the present PR bodies will expire on July 31.
“Once we complete the process of reserving the wards, we will send the list to the State Election Commission,” panchayat raj minister Jupally Krishna Rao told reporters here on Thursday.

The minister said that after completion of the elections, the government would conduct awareness classes for the newly-elected ward members on the new Panchayat Raj Act.

As per the Act, 34 pc seats are to be reserved for BCs, 20 pc for SCs and 5.63 pc for STs. All panchayats in the Scheduled Areas and all ST villages will be reserved 100 per cent for STs.

Besides, as per their population, STs will get 5.63 pc seats outside Scheduled Areas and ST villages. The total electorate will be around 2.02 crore, of whom 1.01 crore are male, 28.15 lakh are STs and 38.58 lakh are SCs.
