Meet for safety of senior citizens

Nagpur: Senior Citizen Convention Organizing Committee will hold a daylong conference at Suresh Bhat Hall in Resimbagh from 11.30am to 8.30pm on Sunday in which more than 3,000 people from all over Vidarbha will participate.
Addressing a press conference, ex-MP Datta Meghe said the conference will mainly deal with social and economic safety of senior citizens. Various organizations have joined hands to form this committee to protect the interests of senior citizens, he added.

The committee will help elders, who play an important role in society, fulfil their demands and resolve problems. Efforts will also be made to make youngsters understand their responsibility towards elders, Meghe said.

The conference will be inaugurated by social justice minister Rajkumar Badole and guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule at 1pm.

Mayor Nanda Jichkar, MP Dr Vikas Mahatme, Ramdas Tadas, Ajay Sancheti, Nisha Sawarkar, Sudhakar Deshmukh, Anil Sole and Charan Waghmare will address the gathering.

Sharad Nimbalkar and Avinash Telang will speak on ‘Issues faced by rural farmers, tenants and solution to their problems’, and ‘Laws for senior citizens and their implementation’ respectively.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and union transport minister Nitin Gadkari will be the chief guests at the concluding function.

The conference will be followed by ‘Bhajan Sandhya’ by singer Anup Jalota at 6.30pm.

Sudhakar Kohale, Girish Gandhi and committee members were present at the press conference.
