No contestant reached Rs 28 lakh poll expenditure limit in Karnataka's Koppal district

None of the 52 contestants in fray in Koppal district for five assembly constituencies reached poll expenditure limit of Rs 28 lakh for May 12 assembly elections.

KOPPAL: None of the 52 contestants in fray in Koppal district for five assembly constituencies reached poll expenditure limit of Rs 28 lakh for May 12 assembly elections. According to official sources, all the 52 contestants have submitted their poll expenditure details and BJP candidates are ahead in poll expenditure in all the five constituencies.

The BJP candidate from Gangavati claimed to have spent Rs 26,81,391, followed by the party candidates Hallappa Achar from Yelburga (Rs 20,11,900), Doddanagouda Patil from Kushtagi (Rs17,78,347), Basavaraj Dhadesagur from Kanakagiri (Rs 17,77,683) and Amaresh Karadi from Koppal (Rs 15,00,025). Of the five BJP candidates Paranna Munavalli, Halappa Achar and Basavaraj Dhadesagur have been elected as MLAs.Congress candidate Iqbal Ansari from Gangavati claimed to have spent Rs 14,09,799 followed by Basavaraj Rayareddy from Yelburga (Rs13,10,437), Shivaraj Tangadagi from Kanakagiri (Rs 11,49,558), Raghavendra Hitnal from Koppal (Rs 9,70,649) and Amaregouda Bayyapur from Kushtagi (Rs 8,21,328). Among the five Congress candidates, Raghavendra Hitnal and Amaregouda Bayyapur have been elected as MLAs.

Intriguingly, none of the five JD(S) candidates in Koppal district could reach poll expenditure of even Rs 10 lakh. The party candidate Kariyanna Sangti from Gangavati claimed to have spent just Rs 7,52,008, followed by K M Sayyed from Koppal (Rs 7,27,191), Veeranagouda Policepatil from Yelburga (Rs 6,40,680), Manjula Ravi from Kanakagiri (Rs 3,51, 140) and H C Neeravari from Kushtagi (Rs 3,12,673). Further, all the remaining 37 contestants have shown poll expenditure less than Rs 1 lakh, sources maintained.The details of May 12 poll expenditure will soon be forwarded to State Election Commission, sources added.
