Two brothers were beaten to death for reportedly not paying for cigarettes, in Kadugondanahalli limits on Wednesday night.

The deceased — Mateen, 32, and Ameen, 30 — were residents of Govindpura.

The incident took place around 9 p.m. on the premises of a playground in K.G. Halli limits. The duo had walked into a shop and demanded cigarettes. After the shopkeeper gave the cigarettes, the duo allegedly walked away without paying for them. The shopkeeper allegedly called his friends, dragged the brothers to a ground and beat them with iron rods, police said.

Passers-by, who noticed the incident, alerted the police.

Police have arrested the shopkeeper Wasim and his friend Prashanth. K.G. Halli police have registered a case.
