NEW DELHI: IAS officers of the 2016 batch will be posted in central government departments for three months starting July 2. The posting is part of a unique initiative started by the government to groom bureaucrats at the Centre before they move out to their respective state cadres.
According to an order from the department of personnel and training, these officers of the 2016-batch will be starting their career from Central ministries in Delhi. The order said that the officers will report to their respective state cadres after completion of their 13-week tenure.
The initiative of Central deputation of fresh batches of IAS officers was taken by the Modi government with a view to groom them at the Centre before they move over to their respective state of posting.
Training of officers of 2016 batch will conclude on June 29 at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) based at Mussoorie and they will join at Centre on July 2. They will report to the Joint secretaries of the respective ministries.
The DoPT order also mentioned that the ministries will maintain record sheet of these officers to be forded to the state governments.
Officials said that this practice helps in enriching their perspective and also acquaint them with the functioning of the Union government and enable them to get themselves introduced to various functionaries and officials in the central government hierarchy.
Officials said that a special designation of Assistant Secretary has been given to them for the purpose.
