Haas boosts Tour de France hopes with second podium
Canberra's Nathan Haas continues to stake a claim for Katusha-Alpecin's Tour De France team with his second podium of the nine-day Tour de Suisse.
Haas finished 10 seconds behind stage six winner Soren Kragh Andersen - from Michael Matthews' Team Sunweb - on Friday, to go with his third-placed finish on stage two.
Australia's Richie Porte extended his overall lead of the Tour de Suisse to 32 seconds ahead of Sunweb's Wilco Kelderman.
Haas is a chance of making Katusha's Tour de France team, which would be just his second appearance at the world's most famous race after he didn't finish it in 2015.
The 29-year-old was upset not to have won the stage, having been part of a long breakaway.
"That was an awesome stage. Tour de Suisse is so nice when it’s not raining. I admit I’m a little disappointed to get second today instead of winning," Haas said.
"It always hurts a little more to get beaten by the tactic where a guy sits for the last 30km and we were pushing as hard as we could to actually win the race.
"Hats off – he’s an awesome rider and this is a big win for him, but what can I say? I put a lot of spirit into today."
