Chief Minister Edappadi Thursday told the Assembly that his government has been prompt in releasing financial assistance from the Chief Minister General Relief Fund to the family members of those who are killed in natural calamities and disasters.

Responding to the demand of members of the House, the Chief Minister said financial assistance between ₹3 lakh and ₹4 lakh was given as solatium whenever accidents were brought to his notice by the Collectors and others.

When DMK deputy leader in the House Duraimurugan raised a query, the Chief Minister said: “I am regularly releasing solatium. The district Collectors also bring it to my notice about natural disasters.”

Opposition leader M.K. Stalin said while the government had released financial assistance to the family of Anitha and Prathipa who had committed suicide after their failure to clear NEET, no assistance was given to the family of Subashree, another girl who had ended her life. He said the DMK had released ₹2 lakh to her family.
