MUMBAI: Actor and 2013
Bigg Boss contestant Armaan
Kohli, remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday by a magistrate in a case of assault lodged by his live-in girlfriend, got no immediate relief from the
Bombay high court on Thursday.
The high court asked him to express “remorse and regret” and adjourned to Friday his plea to quash the FIR registered by his girlfriend, Neeru Randhawa, at the Santacruz police station for assaulting her on June 3.
The high court after observing the wound on Randhawa’s head and taking note of her denial that it was caused by a fall down the stairs, wanted to know if the actor expressed true remorse for his alleged actions. A bench of Justice R M Savant and Justice Revati
Mohite Dere asked Kohli’s counsel, Satish Maneshinde, for Kohli’s affidavit to be submitted on Friday.
“We want an affidavit expressing remorse and regret,” said the bench. The judges remarked that they wanted to know that Kohli would not ask for any such relief in future.
“We can’t be mechanical,” said Justice Savant after both judges perused the 46-year-old Kohli’s plea. “We are also concerned with what happens in society,” Justice Savant said to Maneshinde.
When asked by the judge about Randhawa’s injury, Maneshinde said: “She fell down the stairs and hit the stairs, got 15 stitches”. Randhawa denied it.
Randhawa, Kohli’s 35-year-old live-in girlfriend for over three years, alleged that he had banged her head on the concrete floor and she required multiple stitches.
The two were planning some business and had financial arguments, it is alleged.
Randhawa, who has left Kohli’s Santacruz home, stood in court behind her lawyer Shantanu Phanse. She had a tape covering the swelling and stitches on the right side of her forehead.
The court was informed that both parties had settled the matter and that a monetary deal was part of it.
