DANBURY - Town Hill Avenue will be closed to traffic for several hours near Clark Street as crews clean up from a serious car accident that occurred late Thursday.

Authorities said a car slammed into a utility pole on Town Hill Avenue near the intersection with Clark Street around 11 p.m. Thursday. The pole was broken in three pieces as a result of the crash and the car rolled onto its side.

Firefighters had to extricate the driver out of the vehicle as there was a large number of downed power lines on the car. The driver, who was not identified, was sent to Danbury Hospital for evaluation. The condition of the driver wasn’t immediately known.

Utility crews on Friday said it would take more than eight hours to replace the pole, which included both a transformer as well as a street light. Town Hill Avenue will be closed from Clark Street to Stillman while the repairs are completed.
