Dorothy L. Armstrong Johnston, 93, of Center Twp., passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at her residence. Born on November 2, 1924, in Monaca, she was the daughter of the late Ralph H. and Leona L. (Hicks) Armstrong. Dorothy married John M. Johnston on November 30, 1946, and shared 71 years of marriage. John preceded her in death six months ago on December 17, 2017. A lady with a deep and abiding faith in God, she had a great love for her Savior, church and family. A devout member of the North Branch Presbyterian Church, Center Twp., Dorothy taught both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and had previously served as a church deacon. In addition to her faith, Dorothy is remembered for her radiant smile. She loved music and was a talented pianist. Her love for art was displayed in the numerous china pieces which she painted and were given as keepsakes. While her children were small, Dorothy owned and operated Johnston's Beauty Shop in her home for 15 years. She later worked for Pittsburgh Tube Co., Monaca, as a personnel administrative assistant. Dorothy will be sadly missed by her children, Kay Harper Allison and her husband Bruce of Hopewell Twp. and Jeffrey Johnston of Center Twp.; three grandchildren, Jason (Kimberly) Harper, Chad Harper and Christopher (Angelia) Harper; five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Colt, Haley, William and Lacey Harper, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, John, she was predeceased by her four older siblings, Theo Armstrong Donaldson, Harry and Robert Armstrong, and Robert Ames. Friends will be received on Sunday, June 17, from 1 to 6 p.m. in the SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Ave., Monaca (724-728-4000). Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the North Branch Presbyterian Church, 139 North Branch Road, Center Twp., with her pastor, the Reverend Deborah Huffmyer, officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made, if desired, to the North Branch Presbyterian Church.
