Chaos as multiple vehicle crash closes M7 at Eastern Creek

A major crash between multiple trucks and cars has closed the M7 and left a truck driver trapped with serious injuries.

Police were called just before 12.30pm on Friday to the M7 at Eastern Creek near Wallgrove Road in Sydney's west.

A police spokeswoman described the scene as "absolute carnage" with "debris everywhere".

The driver has "serious leg and arm injuries", a Transport Management Centre spokesman said.

The TMC spokesman said four trucks and four cars were involved in the smash.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the male truck driver, in his 30s, was freed after about an hour.

"We are on scene with seven units, the CareFlight chopper and medical team," the spokesman said.

"We're assessing six patients, four with minor injuries and two patients with more significant, serious injuries."

As well as the male truck driver, paramedics were treating a female patient in her 20s for serious facial and abdominal injuries.

The M7 is closed southbound, with motorists being diverted off the motorway onto Old Wallgrove Road and Wallgrove Road where they can rejoin the motorway from The Horsley Drive.

Traffic is heavy with three-kilometre queues in both directions.

Police have advised motorists to avoid the area if possible, or face lengthy delays.
