VADODARA: Police resorted to
lathicharge at Sankarda Road in Savli taluka on
Thursday afternoon after workers of an engineering company created
ruckus outside the company’s premises after the death of a worker due to electric shock in the company’s premises on Wednesday night.
Police sources said that the workers were demanding compensation for a worker identified as Kiritsinh Solanki (33), who died due to electric shock near water cooler in the company’s premises. According to sources, as there was no announcement by the company regarding the compensation, the workers resorted to violence in the company’s premises.
The mob also pelted stones at a bus and a car. As the cops learnt about the violence, they reached there to control the situation. However, several people from the mob also tried to attack cops as a result police resorted to lathicharge.
“The crowd was getting out of control and was trying to enter the company’s premises for ransacking therefore we resorted to mild lathicharge. However, neither the cops nor anyone from the mob was injured,” said T B Pandya, police sub-inspector, Bhadarva police station.
Later, the company’s management held a meeting with the deceased worker’s family members in presence of local MLA Ketan Inamdar.
The police registered a case of accidental death in connection with Solanki’s death. However, no case was registered after the violence outside the company’s premises.
